Pakistani Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the United States should limit its drone strikes against Taliban militants while four nations’ efforts for peace dialogue are underway in Muscat of Oman.
Speaking on a local TV talk show, the foreign minister expressed hope that the four-nation moot to revive peace talks with Taliban, currently underway in Muscat, would yield positive results. But the US should try to limit drone attacks during this time period for the talks to be successful.
Pakistan wants relations with the US based on equality, Asif reiterated.
Afghanistan, China, Pakistan, and the United States met in Oman on Monday to try to revive the Afghan-Taliban peace settlement. The four-nation Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QGC) — met in Islamabad early last year as well— mainly to revive peace dialogue between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
But it was not clear if any Afghan Taliban had joined the dialogue, which has so far failed to revive the process that was halted in 2015.
