United States is currently operating its well-known program-Special Immigration Visa (SIV)- which grant visas for those who have directly worked for the US government in Afghanistan.
The Afghan Priority Two Program is intended to be launched on Monday, August 2, and is said no to qualify for the applicants of SIV.
Earlier, a coalition of 24 US-based media outlets had written separate letters to President Joe Biden and House of Representatives demanded them up to one thousand additional visas for Afghan journalists who have worked with US media during the past twenty years.
Under the new program, applicants are required to be referred by US agencies, senior US officials, media outlets, or nongovernmental bodies, Reuters cited sources.
As per the latest information, nearly 20 thousand applicants have applied for US visas through the SIV program. Biden has promised to relocate up to 750 applicants directly to the US, out of them 221 people including children arrive in the US, Virginia on Friday.
