We are ready to finalize the peace agreement, let`s see if Taliban ready or not?

The U.S. envoy for Afghan peace Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad has said the United States is ready to try and finalize the remaining issues regarding the peace process.

Ambassador Khalilzad said in a Twitter post that he had a productive week in Afghanistan where he briefed the management on where they are and next steps.

Furthermore, he said “Back on the road again. First stop Doha where we will try and close on remaining issues. We’re ready. Let’s see if the Taliban are as well.”

Meanwhile, the State Department in a statement said “In Doha, Ambassador Khalilzad will resume talks with the Taliban as part of an overall effort to facilitate a peace process that ends the conflict in Afghanistan.”

The statement further added “In Kabul, he will consult with the leadership of the Afghan government on the peace process and encourage full preparation for intra-Afghan negotiations. Additional travel has not been finalized.”
